Math
This week, we talked about numbers and the meaning of one more and one less. This was a tough concept to grasp for most, so we focused on quantity representation for them.
Next week, we will talk about doubling. However, for those who need to revise, we will continue to work on number recognition. I will be sending you an initial assessment e-mail for numeracy.
Inquiry
This week, we read the book “The very hungry caterpillar” by Eric Carle. Then we focused on the initial part – the simple patterns of the caterpillar. We explored visual patterns through various activities linked to the book and made a caterpillar necklace as our main project.

Central idea: Patterns help us understand how the world works.

Lines of inquiry:
  • defining patterns
  • creating patterns
  • uses of patterns

Our learner profile for this week was ‘caring’. Please encourage your children be caring towards others and include our new friends in play.
Next week, we will continue to read the  book “The very hungry caterpillar” by Eric Carle. We will focus on the butterfly aspect of the book and go into more complex patterns including shapes.

Our learner profile for next week will be ‘principled’. Please encourage your children to make good choices, to be fair and honest.
Home Learning
As a home learning activity, please practice writing ‘j’. The kids found this a bit tricky. Please focus on the curve going to the left and leave a gap before the dot.
