Ladybugs can teach us so much...

This week, we began learning about ladybugs and we applied our knowledge of what we have learnt so far:

- Initial sounds
- Symmetry
- Doubling
- Counting and representing numbers

First, we used potatoes to stamp the body of the ladybug and a carrot to stamp the head. By doing this we revised Oval and Circle shapes as well.

Then, they had to fill in blanks of the word 'ladybug'; this required them to revise their sounds and learn how to segment words.

Finally, the kids were asked to work independently and use their discretion to figure out what to do next. They were asked to look at the number on their page and try to divide this equally to create a symmetric dot pattern (this required the kids to remember their knowledge of doubling). This was a challenge and I am very proud of how the kids tackled it!

Next, we will explore the lifecycle of a ladybug and observe if the kids can apply their knowledge of the lifecycle of butterflies. This part of the inquiry cycle is called 'Going Further'.

We are very excited to have you in our class next week to show you how far we've come in our inquiry cycle. Please let us know if you are coming :)
