Inquiry in Week 9

Searching for items in the sand tray, then guessing the initial sound!

 "This is a train!"

 "I found a fly!"

Learning to be communicators and in turn working together.

 "We making a pattern together"

"Like this Kairi, we have to go round"

"We're making cloud big.."

"I want to do a teeny one!!"

"Look, I make this into 4"

"And turn around, it my name!"

We had a class discussion about what we have learnt so far... and discovered many new facts.

 "Goats have babies... no egg"

 "Look baby elephant"

Actually, some snakes can have babies but others lay eggs. How interesting!

This discussion came about when we talked about caterpillars laying eggs.

We also have a new class friend - our very own caterpillar!

 "I draw it!"
"I think it Mr.Caterpillar... have lot of poo poo"

Ohm was right. Our Mr.Caterpillar ate so much, that it had to poop out everywhere. We're hoping that it builds a cocoon soon. But if not, we will let it go free so that it can eat more. Stay posted! :)

The next day...

Later in the day, we decided that it was time to let Mr.Caterpillar go free. Nina said "It not fair to keep him in the jar". So, we took turns to say goodbye to him and let him go...

Bye Bye Mr.Caterpillar!!! :()

Another very exciting part of the week for myself was seeing the kids apply their knowledge to a new context. As you know, we have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly so far. We asked the kids to use what they know about this and think of how a ladybug's lifecycle could be.

They worked independently with no support!

The kids were very proud of themselves when they saw that what they guessed was actually very close to the real thing!
